The effect of social isolation of young generation on perception and behavior of discrimination against the older people: Mediating effect of perception of generational conflict

Abstract
This study aims to examine how social isolation of young adults affects perception and behavior of discrimination against the older people, and whether perception of generational conflict acts as a mediating effect. Based on the results, the study suggests ways to prevent discrimination against the older people and promote social integration. For the study, secondary data ¡®2018 Survey on Age Integration and Generational Integration¡¯ were used. The analysis of the data was performed on 346 participants aged 20 to 39, and they were selected from a total of 1010 study populaion. Firstly, a positive effect of social isolation on perception and behavior of discrimination against the older people is found in young adults. It was confirmed that the more isolated are, the higher his discriminatory perception and behavior are. Secondly, the mediating effect of perception of generational conflict on the relationship between social isolation and discriminatory perception and behavior against the older people, was partly confirmed. With these results, we presented practical and policy suggestions to reduce discrimination against the older people.
